Hamilton would not be the first former Formula 1 driver to see his child reach the highest level. The most famous example of this time is Max Verstappen who also saw his father participate in the sport at a young age.
The seven-time world champion knows better than anyone how much pressure there is to perform well, especially when you have a famous father. “When you look at our sport and all the ex-drivers it’s different for the kids,” says Hamilton, pointing to the high expectations that come with it.
Moreover, according to Hamilton the father is quickly called in when the driver has a good performance. “People say that you only got there because your name is Senna”, he mentions as an example. Therefore Hamilton wishes his children to go in another direction than he did in life.
