Former world No. 6 Gael Monfils has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open as he is set to undergo a new set of treatment on his foot. Last week, Monfils sustained a foot injury during his Montreal Masters last-16 meeting with Jack Draper.
After withdrawing from this week's Cincinnati Masters and returning a main draw wildcard to the Winston-Salem Open, Monfils has confirmed that he will also skip the US Open. "Dear all, following the latest medical exams that I took upon returning in Europe, I will sadly not be able to play at the US Open this year.
I am forced to undergo a new period of treatment before being able to resume tournaments. I will keep you informed as soon as I can with regards to my next tournamet," Monfils wrote on Twitter.

Shortly after the Draper match, Monfils sent out a tweet to update his fans on his condition. The initial results weren't good and Monfils decided to return to Europe.
That's when it became clear that Monfils would likely be out of the US Open. "Hello! Tough one tonight in Montreal. The 1st exams that I have had are not great. I have decided to fly back to Europe to consult with my doctors.
I will keep you updated as soon as possible. Thank you again for all your messages of support," Monfils tweeted after the Draper match. In May, Monfils underwent a heel surgery. After being out for three months, Monfils made his return to competitive action in Montreal.
Unfortunately, Monfils' return didn't go quite as planned as he is now again forced to spend some time sidelined. Monfils will now likely focus on his recovery and family time. In May, Monfils and his wife Elina Svitolina announced they were expecting their first child.
Svitolina hasn't played since March as she and Monfils have had a chance to spend some quality time together in recent months.
