In a clash between unbeaten welterweights, Giovani “Gallo de Oro” Santillan (30-0, 16 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Julio Luna (19-1-2, 10 KOs). Scores were a realistic 96-94, and two judges had a 100-90 shutout for the hometown fighter.
Undefeated middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh (6-0, 5 KOs), grandson of Muhammad Ali, knocked out Reyes Sanchez (7-3, 3 KOs) in the second round with a body shot. The fight took in the same venue where Walsh’s grandfather got his jaw broken by Ken Norton in a 1973 split decision loss.
In a clash between unbeaten junior welterweights, Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado (16-0, 13 KOs) defeated Omar “Pollo” Aguilar (24-1, 23 KOs) over eight by scores of 77-75, 79-73, 79-73.
In a clash between unbeaten junior lightweights Austin Brooks (7-0, 2 KOs) beat Oliver Galicia (5-0-1, 3 KOs) by unanimous decision over four, 40-35 3x.
Junior lightweight Xavier Martinez (18-1, 12 KOs) stopped Alejandro Guerrero (12-3, 9 KOs) with a barrage of punches at 2:57 of round five.
Lightweight Miguel “Cave Man” Contreras (12-1-1, 6 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Josec Ruiz (23-7-3, 16 KOs). Scores were 79-72, 80-72, 80-82.
IBF #1 featherweight Luis Alberto “Venado” Lopez (26-2, 15 KOs) finished Yeison Vargas (20-11, 15 KOs) with a liver shot in round two. Time was 1:24.
Unbeaten 6’9 heavyweight Antonio “El Gigante” Mireles (5-0, 5 KOs) came off the canvas in round one to get a second round TKO against Kaleel Carter (2-2, 2 KOs).
That was a vicious knockout by Ali-Walsh and it shows some improvement because the first time around Reyes gave him so many problems the first time around.
Love to see Venado staying active while waiting on Warrington to heal up. Maybe he can even get another one before the end of the year.
Suliman Luna should had been a.draw or cloe.split either way.I gave.Suliman the last 2.rds? But thought he was down after8.Time.to stop hyping.Nico Ali-walsh. At least his mother is hot
I like Santillan, even trained with him years ago at Undisputed in San Diego, but it’s time for him to step up in terms of competition.
I don’t know how much more of a step up he could handle really. He got hit with that same uppercut the entire fight, if Luna had more power, he would have won the fight. Santillan is 30, he’s in his prime, but if he does step up, they’ll still have to be very careful with him imo. Maybe a Jamal James type.
Santillan can beat another 30 fighters like that but if he doesn’t step up he isn’t going to get money fights nor title fights..
