Roy Morris, died after his personal motor scooter crashed while he was playing a round of golf at Whitsand Bay Golf Club, an inquest opening has heard
A 79-year-old man who was riding a personal motor scooter while playing golf died after he suffered an injury to his head when it crashed. An inquest was opened today into the death of Roy Morris by senior coroner Ian Arrow at Plymouth Coroner's Court.
Mr Arrow noted that Mr Morris, of Bluebell Close in Saltash, passed away at Derriford Hospital on August 14 this year. During the short hearing he explained that Mr Morris was divorced and had retired from the RAF.
He went on to describe the circumstances of Mr Morris' death, following an incident at the Whitsand Bay Golf Club on August 9. He said that Mr Morris had been playing golf and was on a path on his personal motor scooter with his golf clubs attached to the rear.
When going around a bend he fell off the scooter hitting his head and neck backwards on a rock, the inquest opening heard. Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene and Mr Morris was transported to Derriford Hospital.
However, despite the hospital staff's best effort, Mr Morris sadly passed away on August 14, at 12.40am. A post mortem was later carried out by a Home Office pathologist and the cause of death was given as cervical spinal cord injury, cervical spinal fracture, as a result of an accidental fall.
The inquest was adjourned for a file to be prepared ahead of a full hearing at a later date.
