Our man between the sticks reacted to an eventful affair at Portman Road on Saturday as the Reds drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town.
Collins pulled off a string of fantastic saves to keep us in the game at numerous points throughout the 98 minutes of action, as goals from Jack Aitchison and Callum Styles held the Tractor Boys to a point in East Anglia.
Our ‘keeper believed this tough test was to be expected ahead of the game and praised his teammates for their character.
“First of all, we knew it was going to be tough coming to a place like this,” he opened.
“We knew we’d have to dig deep and fight, and, if you watch the last ten minutes – that’s how you do it.”
A particularly pleasing aspect of today’s performance for Collins was the character the side showed in going behind twice at Portman Road and responding on both occasions.
The 25-year-old believes this is something that is growing in the squad and will only continue to get better as the season progresses.
“If you look back to maybe last season maybe we were lacking a bit in that sense,” Collins admitted.
“But, I think the gaffer is trying to drill a few things into us which we can implement on the pitch. That’s the start of something, it is only something, but we need to push on now.”
Heading into the final minutes of the affair, the scores being finely poised at 2-2, the home side began to apply intense pressure with the 24,400 home supporters rallying behind their side.
These moments call on the ‘keeper to come up with the goods when the chips are down, something Collins did, making two fantastic saves to deny almost certain goals for the Tractor Boys.
“I find it kind of easier when you come to places like this,” Collins discussed.
“It’s a loud place today. I find places like this quite easy to concentrate because there’s 25.000 here. I like playing in these games, I like playing in good stadiums and yeah, I enjoyed it.”
