Adin Hill was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Monday for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The 26-year-old goalie is in the final season of a two-year contract he signed with San Jose on Aug. 4, 2021. He was 10-11-1 with a 2.66 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and two shutouts in 25 games (22 starts) last season.
“[The Golden Knights are] a great hockey team,” Hill said Tuesday. “They want to make the playoffs and make a push for a Cup. I’m excited, and for the expectations, we’re all here to win a Stanley Cup. That’s why you play the game: To win a Cup.”

Hill (6-foot-6, 214 pounds) will compete for playing time with Laurent Brossoit behind Logan Thompson, who is likely to be the No. 1 goalie after Vegas announced Aug. 11 that Robin Lehner is expected to be out for the season because of hip surgeries.
“This puts another really good goalie in our organization and in our mix,” Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said Monday. “It gives us a lot more comfort going into the year. I believe Adin has a lot of ability and he has really good size.”
Brossoit was 10-9-3 with a 2.90 GAA, .895 save percentage and one shutout in 24 games (21 starts) last season but didn’t play after March 15 and had a medical procedure for an undisclosed injury after the season. McCrimmon said he wasn’t sure Brossoit would be ready when the Golden Knights open the season at the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 11.
Vegas also signed goalie Michael Hutchinson to a one-year contract July 13. The 32-year-old played two games for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season and 28 games for Toronto of the American Hockey League.
Selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (No. 76) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Hill is 29-32-5 with a 2.74 GAA, .908 save percentage and five shutouts in 74 games (63 starts) during five seasons with the Coyotes and Sharks.
“James Reimer and Kaapo Kahkonen are experienced veterans who are capable of providing quality goaltending for our team,” Sharks GM Mike Grier said. “We have significantly increased our organizational depth at the goaltending position over the last six months. This trade provides an opportunity for Adin to compete for playing time, while adding another asset that our organization can use in the future. We wish Adin the best in Vegas.”
