SAN JOSE, CA – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has re-signed forward Jonah Gadjovich to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Jonah’s work ethic and toughness are two traits that really stand out in his game,” said Grier. “We’re happy to have him signed and are looking forward to continuing his development next season.”
Gadjovich, 23, skated in 43 games for the Sharks in 2021-22, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and 74 penalty minutes. The forward made his Sharks debut on Oct. 24 at Boston and recorded his first NHL point, an assist, on a first period goal by Jasper Weatherby. On Feb. 27, Gadjovich scored his first career NHL goal vs. Seattle and earned a career-high plus-2 rating. Gadjovich and teammate Scott Reedy became the seventh set of Sharks teammates to score their first career goal in the same game. At the end of the season, he ranked second among Sharks rookies in hits (104) and penalty minutes. He was claimed off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 7, 2021.
In the 2020-21 season, Gadjovich appeared in his first NHL game with Vancouver along with 19 American Hockey League (AHL) contests with the Utica Comets, scoring 18 points (15 goals, three assists), 17 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating. He led AHL players in goals-per-game ratio (.79, minimum 15 games played) and finished tied-fifth in the league in goals.
Over the course of his professional career, he has appeared in 44 NHL games scoring three points (one goal, two assists) and 91 penalty minutes. In 100 career AHL games, he has recorded 45 points (32 goals, 13 assists) and 81 penalty minutes.
Prior to his professional career, Gadjovich played four junior seasons with the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He appeared in 228 OHL games, posting 155 points (89 goals, 66 assists), 175 penalty minutes and a plus-33 rating. The forward finished third in league goal scoring in the 2016-17 season, with 46 goals in 60 games. He also served as an alternate captain for the 2017-18 season.
The six-foot-two, 209-pound native of Whitby, Ont. was originally selected by Vancouver in the 2017 NHL Draft (second round, 55th overall).
