Aleksandra Krunic beat Barbora Krejcikova 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday night. She will try to end the 12-match winning streak of Russian Liudmila Samsonova in the next round
Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic moved into the third round of the US Open by beating Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 23 seed, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday night.
Ahead of her win on Wednesday, Krunic had defeated Russian qualifier Elina Avanesyan (6-4, 6-4) in the first round.
Krejcikova won the French Open title in 2021 but has been struggling this year after battling COVID and injuries.
Krunic, ranked No 96, will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova next. Samsonova upset the No 14 seed Leylah Fernandez, the No 14 seed, in straight sets.
