Holger Rune benefited from the forfeit of John Isner on Wednesday.
Dane Holger Rune, the No 28 seed, reached the third round of the US Open after American John Isner withdrew due to a wrist injury before the match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday.
Rune, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between No 7 seed Cameron Norrie and Portuguese João Sousa next.
Ahead of his victory, the 19-year-old Dane won against German Peter Gojowczyk (6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (5)).
Isner, ranked No 48, beat Argentinian qualifier Federico Delbonis (6-3, 6-1, 7-5) in the previous round of the Flushing Meadows.
