Parker (30-2, 21 KOs) notes that Joyce (14-0, 13 KOs) is incredibly easy to hit, and although he can take a good punch, he can be stopped if he gets hit a lot.
Joyce has been stopped in the amateur ranks, and as a profession, he’s fought middle-of-the-road opposition to build his 14-0 record.
The only decent heavyweights the 6’6″ Joyce has fought are Bryant Jennings and Daniel Dubois. Jennings had Joyce hurt to the body in their fight in 2019.
As for Dubois, he suffered an eye injury that led to him bowing out early before he could land his full armament on Joyce.
What is worrisome is the nagging cough that Parker has heading into this fight. He doesn’t sound good, and you got to wonder if he’s 100%.
“It could be. It’s all up to me on how I approach this fight,” said Joseph Parker to Queensbury about his clash this Saturday against Joe Joyce.
“I’m not taking anything away from Joe Joyce. He’s a hard fight. If I can execute what I know I can and what Andy [Lee] knows I can and what Tyson [Fury] knows I can, I can make it an easy night for us.
“A lot of it in camp right now is physical and mental. We’ve been doing a lot of things to prepare for every aspect. I’m not really sure what Joe Joyce is planning and his team.
“I wouldn’t say I don’t care, but I’m more focused on myself and what my plan is. Yeah, I have. I’ve seen him get hit with a lot of punches,” said Parker when asked if he’s thought about knocking out Joyce.
“My knockout ration isn’t the greatest or the worse, but I do have knockout power. Yeah, I envision knocking him out. Boom, straight on the chin. Straight down the pipe or a left hook.
“I’ve pictured it in my head with different punches. It has to land at the right time and with a clean punch. Joe Joyce can take a punch, but can he take a lot of punches? They all add up. He’s tough and durable, but he has been knocked out in the past. Not as a professional,” said Parker.
