The tennis world is having a hard time resigning itself to the idea of seeing Roger Federer end his career as a professional player. And much less those who, like the director of the ATP in Basel, Roger (coincidentally) Brennwald, had obtained, along with the entire organization, the approval of Switzerland to participate.
Unfortunately, the scenario was turned upside down in a very short time, as Federer first announced his presence in the draw for the Swiss tournament and then upset the plans by choosing the Laver Cup as "theater" for his retirement.
However, Brennwald wants to keep alive the hope of seeing the "Swiss Master" at his event, as he stated in an interview with the German-language Swiss newspaper Blick. "The farewell offer is still open," says the Basel ATP number one without mincing words, who intends to lend a hand to his eternal champion until the end.
In an interview with the Swiss newspaper, among other things, the director of the ATP Basel, Roger Brennwald, responded to the absence of Daniil Medvedev. The Swiss Indoor Cup had reached an agreement months ago with the former world No.
1 Russian star, but with the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine he suddenly changed his mind, choosing the Erste Bank Open in Vienna that same week as an alternative, a choice around which there seems to be an aura of mystery.
Roger Federer opened up about his feelings during the teary-eyed farewell ceremony and other emotional moments during his tennis career. "It's been incredible when I cried on the court and I brought tears to sport and to tennis.
I know it's happened in the past and I was probably quite famous for it. I'm happy I lived through those emotions and at the same time it made me really appreciate the moment and it will never be forgotten," Federer said.
"This is definitely a big moment for me to thank everybody who has always supported me. I feel the Federer fans became more and more the older I got," he said. "If I had all these emotions on the court, it's because of the fans.
They know that, I know that, and those are the things I'm going to miss. Traveling around the world, have somebody wait for me, and be so excited to see me, that's why I wrote in the letter that I love tennis and I will see you around," he added.
