The PSV winger had reportedly agreed personal terms with Leeds ahead of a January transfer window move, landing a big blow to Man Utd’s chances of signing him
Manchester United transfer target and PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is 'no longer keen on a move’ to Leeds United despite it being reported that personal terms had been agreed between both parties.
Mirror Football had recently revealed that Leeds were set to beat their bitter rivals to the signature of the Dutch player of the year in the New Year, having agreed personal terms, and had entered talks with PSV about their £30million valuation of the 23-year-old.
However, it has now been reported that Gakpo has performed a transfer u-turn over a move to Leeds, despite almost joining them on transfer deadline day, after his early season form has begun to attract the attention of much bigger clubs.
According to The Athletic, Leeds have been informed that Gakpo is no longer interested in moving to Elland Road, despite negotiations continuing beyond the end of the summer transfer window on September 1.
The report also states that the Netherlands international is hoping to use the World Cup in November to put himself in the shop window, with a view to leaving PSV in January, having failed to secure a big move away from the Eredivisie club ahead of the new season.
This latest turn of events has now come as a shock boost to Manchester United, who were keen on landing Gakpo themselves in the summer before opting to sign Ajax winger Antony instead for £86million – subsequently running out of money to capture the PSV man.

Gakpo rose to prominence last season after recording 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 games across all competitions as he helped PSV win the Johan Cruyff Shield and the KNVB Cup, whilst finishing as runners up in the league and reaching the quarter-finals of the inaugural Europa Conference League.
After being called up for the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 squad last summer and making his debut in the competition, his form in 2021/22 saw him become a regular member of the Netherlands side as they qualified for the World Cup.
To date, he has three goals and two assists in nine appearances for the Oranje, while his remarkable domestic form for PSV last season has continued into the current campaign, having recorded 13 goals and 10 assists in just 16 games already this season.
And it is that form that has now put some of Europe’s clubs on red alert ahead of the January transfer window, with Arsenal and Real Madrid previously expressing interest in securing his services, alongside the Red Devils.
However, Erik ten Hag’s outfit already have a wealth of attacking options within their side. Antony joined Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo in United’s front line this summer, with the quintet already totalling 17 goals and six assists between them in all competitions.
But if United are to really push on this season then they may go all out to sign Gakpo in January too, now that he has revealed his stance on a move to Leeds. With the possibility of Ronaldo still leaving in the New Year, it further boosts their hopes of landing the Dutchman.
