'Erratic' VW driver allegedly attacked Essex Police officer after car stop – Essex Live

A man has been arrested in Colchester on suspicion of drug driving, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving with no insurance and not having a license – then allegedly assaulting a police officer. Essex Police officers from the Colchester district received reports of a VW Golf driving erratically through the city and hunted it down, according to details shared on Friday, December 2.
After being alerted, police officers from the operation support group searched for the Golf and found it, then boxing it in with two squad cars to force it to stop. Police say the driver then provided a positive result during a roadside drug test and was promptly arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

He was also arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owners consent, driving with no insurance and not having a licence. He then allegedly assaulted a police officer, meaning he was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
Essex Police is now running its annual winter drink drive campaign as the festive period gets underway, and urges anyone with information about drug or drink drivers to get in touch.
